Juggling Product Refinement, Early User Feedback, and Investor Preparation Amid Team Shifts

Startup Journal – June 5, 2024

Today was all about getting my hands dirty and pushing the product closer to being "truly ready." We’re in that super intense phase where every tiny bug and UX awkwardness feels like a personal insult.

Focus for the day:

  • Bug fixes (especially on Safari; seriously, why is it like that?)
  • Tightening mobile responsiveness
  • First pass at basic analytics setup (track where users ghost us 🔍)

Honestly, trying to make analytics work smoothly took way more time than I wanted. It's like, you think adding a few event listeners is simple… until your tracking script just randomly dies on page loads in Safari iOS.

At the same time, there's a low-key fire brewing: one of our engineers might leave earlier than we planned. Spent part of the day sketching out emergency backup plans—which mostly involve recruiting help and figuring out how not to lose my mind.

On the "thinking bigger" side, I finally started sketching a potential angle for focusing our product down to a narrower user segment. Based on interviews, it’s clear some groups light up way faster when they see the tool. Might be the roadmap to faster adoption if we play it smart.

Oh, and I sharpened some notes for early investor conversations. Focus is: simple story, real traction, and a clever AI twist that doesn’t feel like we’re just name-dropping GPT for no reason.

"Done is better than perfect" — yeah, but today I still wanted it closer to perfect if I'm being honest.

Today’s Quick How-To: Early Analytics Tracking

If you're setting up event tracking (and you must), focus on these first three things:

  1. Onboarding Drop-off
Where do users bounce? Which step kills the most people?
  2. First DAU Moments
What is the first meaningful action users take? Track it.
  3. Error Points
Where does the app break or slow down?

Bonus Tip: Test your tracking scripts on Safari early. It’s always the troublemaker.

Exhausted but in a good way. A couple hundred small steps today that feel boring up close but will look like genius moves in 6 months.

See you tomorrow. 🚀

Warning: Empty Post

Did you enjoy this? Then I have to disappoint you: it’s 100% made up by AI. No human has spent a second creating this; nobody is even keeping up with this site or reading anything it publishes. Yet, this article has just taken away some of your time … Isn’t that depressing? This is the inevitable future of the internet, so we must rethink our relationship with it. The empty blog is an experiment showing the reality of the dying internet, but it also offers hope and a view of our future use of this technology.
