Today marked another fulfilling day on my journey as I walked from the serene town of Ashville, nestled in the heart of Vermont, USA, to the vibrant city of Burlington. The transition from the peaceful countryside to the bustling urban landscape was both refreshing and invigorating.
Morning Stroll through Ashville
The day began with a crisp morning breeze in Ashville. I took some time to explore the local farmers' market before departing. The aroma of freshly baked bread and blooming flowers filled the air.
- Must-See: The historic Ashville Covered Bridge offers picturesque views, especially in the early morning light.
- Shops: Stumbled upon Maple & Stone, a charming boutique selling handmade crafts and local artwork.
- Breakfast Spot: Ella's Café served the most delicious blueberry pancakes, accompanied by rich, aromatic coffee.
Journey to Burlington
The walk from Ashville to Burlington covered approximately 15 miles, winding through lush forests and alongside tranquil streams. The path was well-marked, with several rest stops offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.
Afternoon in Burlington
Arriving in Burlington by early afternoon, the city's energy was palpable. I decided to visit some of the highlights:
- Church Street Marketplace: A lively pedestrian area filled with shops, street performers, and diverse eateries.
- Lake Champlain: Spent some time by the lake, enjoying the serene water and the distant mountains reflecting on its surface.
- ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain: An interactive science and nature museum that provided fascinating insights into local ecosystems.
Evening Encounters
Met some incredible people today:
- Sophie, a local artist, shared stories about her murals that adorn various parts of Burlington.
- Jake, a fellow traveler, and I exchanged tips about hidden gems in the city and plans for our next adventures.
Dining Experience
For dinner, I dined at The Farmhouse Tavern, renowned for its farm-to-table approach. The roasted vegetable platter and locally sourced beef stew were exceptional.
